Blackwattle Bay Precinct Planning commences

The community is being asked to provide feedback on early concept plans that will revitalise Blackwattle Bay, deliver new open space, and return inaccessible parts of Sydney harbour to the public for the first time in decades.

With the new Sydney Fish Market sitting at its heart, the NSW Government is refining a plan to transform Blackwattle Bay into a stunning waterfront destination where Sydneysiders will live, work, visit and love.

A future Blackwattle Bay will deliver 30,000 square metres of open space to encourage healthy lifestyles and a harbour foreshore promenade that will provide the missing link in the otherwise continuous walk from Woolloomooloo to Rozelle Bay.

A range of new buildings, varying in height from 2 storeys to 45 storeys, will help to house Sydney’s growing population and support new jobs within walking distance to Sydney CBD. The building heights and orientation have been carefully considered by balancing a wide range of environmental parameters that ensure the streetscape is vibrant, safe and supports a healthy and socially connected community.

The NSW Government has developed three precinct plan scenarios that outline how urban renewal of Blackwattle Bay could look and feel. The Government is now calling on the community to provide feedback on the three scenarios which will help inform a final precinct plan.

The opportunity to transform this area has captured the imagination of locals, Sydneysiders, visitors and international experts for over three decades. We have been working closely with the community since 2014 to refine a plan to support urban renewal.

The scenarios, which are based on the work that has been with the community, show some ways in which Blackwattle Bay might be revitalised. They show different land use mixes, open space arrangements and waterfront promenade designs, and street and building layouts. While each scenario has a set of common features, they also explore unique elements that we want your feedback on.

These scenarios are designed to facilitate a conversation to inform a final precinct plan which will be a part of the State Significant Precinct study that will be submitted to the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment for assessment. There will be further opportunity for comment through the statutory process once the study is put on public exhibition.

The consultation program will close at 5pm Friday 19 June 2020
